linocut
Carved linoleum impression
A linocut is a print made from a design carved into a block of linoleum.
The artist cuts away areas that should remain blank, leaving raised surfaces that receive ink and transfer the image to paper.
The term also refers to the carved block itself or the technique: She made a series of linocuts for the exhibition.
The medium suits bold, graphic designs with strong contrasts.
