disenthrallment
Release from bondage
Disenthrallment is the act of freeing from bondage or domination—literally or figuratively.
The word appears in political and philosophical contexts: the disenthrallment of enslaved peoples, disenthrallment from outdated ideologies.
Lincoln used the related verb in his 1862 message to Congress: "We must disenthrall ourselves." The noun remains rare and formal.
