soaking

Dripping with water

Soaking describes something thoroughly wet or the process of becoming so.

If you're soaking wet, you're drenched—water has penetrated your clothes and reached your skin.

To leave something soaking is to let it sit submerged in liquid, usually to soften or clean it: I left the dishes soaking overnight.

As an intensifier, soaking emphasizes the degree of wetness: We got caught in the rain and arrived home soaking.
