intifada
Occupied territory rebellion
Intifada is an Arabic word meaning "shaking off," used for Palestinian uprisings against Israeli occupation.
The First Intifada (1987–1993) featured strikes and stone-throwing; the Second Intifada (2000–2005) involved armed conflict and suicide bombings.
The term now appears in broader contexts of resistance or rebellion: a cultural intifada, an intifada against corruption.
