juntas
Post-coup ruling groups
Juntas is the plural of junta, a group that seizes and holds political power, typically through military force: The region has seen several juntas rise and fall over the decades.
The word comes from Spanish, where it simply means a council or committee, but in English it carries connotations of illegitimate authoritarian rule.
