jacks

Children's ball-and-pieces game

Jacks is a children's game played with small six-pointed metal or plastic pieces and a ball.

Players bounce the ball and scoop up jacks before catching it: We played jacks on the sidewalk.

The pieces themselves are also called jacks.

In cards, jacks are the face cards ranking between ten and queen.

As slang, jacks can mean nothing at all: You don't know jacks.
