intifadas

Middle Eastern rebellions

Intifadas is the plural of intifada, an Arabic word meaning "shaking off" that refers to Palestinian uprisings against Israeli occupation.

The First Intifada (1987–1993) and Second Intifada (2000–2005) were periods of sustained protest, civil resistance, and violence.

The term has occasionally been applied to other popular uprisings in the Arab world.
