pressure ridge
Frozen collision line
A pressure ridge is a raised formation created when ice sheets or tectonic plates collide and buckle upward.
In polar regions, pressure ridges form jagged walls across sea ice that can block travel: The expedition had to navigate around massive pressure ridges.
The term also applies to geological features where lava or rock has been compressed into elongated mounds.
