horse stance

Wide-legged training posture

Horse stance is a fundamental posture in martial arts where the practitioner stands with feet wide apart, knees bent outward, and thighs roughly parallel to the ground—as if straddling a horse.

Used in kung fu, karate, and other disciplines for building leg strength and stability: Hold horse stance for two minutes.

Also called horse-riding stance.
