southpaw
Boxer using left
A southpaw is a left-handed person, especially in sports.
The term originated in baseball, where a left-handed pitcher's throwing arm faces south in stadiums oriented with home plate to the west.
It extends to boxing and other sports: The southpaw stance confused his opponent.
Outside athletics, southpaw is casual shorthand for any lefty.
