homozygosity

Identical allele pairing

Homozygosity is the genetic condition of having two identical copies of a gene or allele at a particular location on paired chromosomes—one inherited from each parent.

The opposite condition, having two different versions, is heterozygosity.

The test revealed homozygosity for the sickle cell trait.

Inbreeding increases homozygosity, which can concentrate both desirable traits and harmful recessive disorders.
