heterozygosity
Having different alleles
Heterozygosity is the condition of having two different versions of a gene at the same location on paired chromosomes—one inherited from each parent.
The term appears in genetics discussions about inherited traits and disease risk: High heterozygosity in a population indicates genetic diversity.
The opposite condition, having two identical gene versions, is homozygosity.
