herpes simplex virus
Fever blister cause
Herpes simplex virus is a common infection causing painful blisters, typically around the mouth (cold sores, HSV-1) or genitals (HSV-2).
The virus remains dormant in nerve cells and periodically reactivates, producing outbreaks that diminish over time.
Often shortened to HSV or simply herpes: She's had herpes since college.
