fever blister
Lip herpes outbreak
A fever blister is a small, painful sore that forms on or around the lips, caused by the herpes simplex virus.
The name reflects the folk belief that such blisters accompany fevers, though they can appear during any period of stress or illness.
Also called a cold sore.
