double-stranded
Two intertwined chains
Double-stranded describes a molecular structure consisting of two complementary strands wound together, most famously in DNA's double helix.
The term appears primarily in biology and biochemistry: double-stranded DNA, double-stranded RNA.
Single-stranded forms also exist and behave differently in cellular processes.
