guildsmen
Medieval skilled workers
Guildsmen is the plural of guildsman, a member of a guild—historically, an association of craftsmen or merchants who regulated their trade, maintained quality standards, and protected members' interests.
Medieval guildsmen controlled who could practice a craft and how apprentices were trained.
The term now applies to members of similar professional or fraternal organizations, though modern guilds rarely wield the economic power their medieval counterparts did.
The guildsmen voted to raise dues at the annual meeting.
