journeymen
Trained but unmastered
Journeymen is the plural of journeyman, a worker who has completed an apprenticeship and is qualified to practice a trade but hasn't yet achieved master status.
The term extends to anyone competent but not exceptional: a journeyman pitcher, journeyman actors who work steadily without becoming stars.
The word suggests reliable skill without brilliance.
