liveryman

Cares for horses

A liveryman is a member of one of the ancient trade guilds of the City of London, known as livery companies.

These guilds originally regulated specific trades—goldsmiths, fishmongers, drapers—and their members wore distinctive ceremonial dress (livery).

Today the companies are largely charitable and social organizations, though liverymen retain voting rights in certain City elections.

Separately, a liveryman may be someone who keeps horses at a livery stable.
