groins
Beach erosion barriers
Groins is the plural of groin, the area where the thigh meets the torso on either side of the body.
In architecture, groins are the curved edges formed where two vaulted ceilings intersect—a groined vault has multiple such intersections.
The anatomical sense dominates casual usage: He took a knee to the groins sounds odd; most speakers would say groin even when both sides are meant.
