geyser

Thermal water cannon

A geyser is a hot spring that periodically erupts, shooting water and steam into the air.

The eruptions occur when underground water, heated by volcanic activity, builds enough pressure to burst upward.

Iceland's Geysir gave the phenomenon its name.

In British English, geyser also means a gas-powered water heater: The geyser's broken again.
