watch spring
Wound metal spiral
A watch spring is the coiled metal strip that stores and releases energy to power a mechanical watch or clock.
The mainspring, wound by hand or automatic movement, drives the gears; the hairspring regulates the oscillation of the balance wheel, controlling timekeeping accuracy.
The watchmaker replaced the broken watch spring.
