geolocator
Device pinpointing location
A geolocator is a device or software that determines geographic position.
The term covers everything from GPS units to phone apps that pinpoint your location: The geolocator showed we were still five miles from the trailhead.
In wildlife research, geolocators are lightweight tags that track animal migrations by recording light levels, which researchers later use to calculate latitude and longitude.
