foxhunts
Mounted pack pursuits
Foxhunts are organized pursuits of foxes by hunters on horseback using trained hounds.
The sport, traditional in Britain and parts of the American South, involves elaborate ritual: red coats, horn calls, and a hierarchical structure led by a master of foxhounds.
The local foxhunts meet every Saturday in autumn.
As a verb, to foxhunt is to participate in such a hunt.
The practice remains controversial, with critics condemning it as cruel and defenders calling it pest control wrapped in tradition.
