nature observation
Studying the outdoors
Nature observation is the practice of watching and studying plants, animals, weather, and other natural phenomena in their environments.
It ranges from casual noticing—We spent the afternoon in nature observation at the pond—to systematic scientific monitoring.
Birdwatching, stargazing, and phenology are forms of nature observation.
The activity emphasizes patience and attention over intervention.
