cry

Loud emotional outburst

The two main meanings of cry both take place on your face.

When you cry, tears fall from your eyes.

If no tears are present, cry is about loud sounds coming from your mouth, possibly including words.

When a baby cries, you get the combo: tears and loud noises.

A cry is an instance of any of the foregoing: you can have a good cry, or you can hear a loud cry.
