film negative
Light-dark swapped image
A film negative is a piece of photographic film that has been exposed and developed, showing the image with tones reversed—light areas appear dark and dark areas appear light.
Colors also appear as their complements.
Prints are made by shining light through the negative onto photosensitive paper, which reverses the tones back to normal.
Before digital photography, negatives were the standard intermediate step in producing photographs.
