enlarger

Negative-to-print device

An enlarger is a device used in photography to project a negative onto light-sensitive paper, producing a print larger than the original.

The enlarger was central to darkroom work before digital photography: She adjusted the enlarger to get the right crop.

More generally, anything that makes something bigger can be called an enlarger.
