scar formation
Tissue repair aftermath
Scar formation is the body's process of replacing damaged tissue with fibrous connective tissue after injury.
The result is tougher but less functional than the original—skin scars lack sweat glands, heart scars can't contract.
The term appears in medical contexts: Excessive scar formation can restrict movement.
Also called scarring or fibrosis.
