objectification
Treating people instrumentally
Objectification is the act of treating a person as a thing rather than as a human being with thoughts, feelings, and agency.
The term appears most often in discussions of how women are reduced to their physical appearance or sexual appeal, particularly in media and advertising.
More broadly, objectification can occur whenever someone's humanity is ignored in favor of their usefulness or function: The objectification of workers as mere productivity units.
