Fetishizing is treating something or someone as an object of excessive, often irrational devotion or sexual fixation.
In its original sense, it refers to attributing magical or erotic power to an object or body part.
More broadly, it describes obsessive focus on a particular quality, trait, or category of person in ways that reduce complexity to a single fixation: Critics accused the director of fetishizing violence.
When applied to people, fetishizing often carries negative connotations of objectification: fetishizing Asian women.
