false gods
Idols wrongly worshipped
False gods are deities or objects of worship that believers in a "true" religion consider illegitimate, powerless, or demonic.
The term appears throughout monotheistic traditions to denounce rival religions: Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
By extension, false gods are anything given undue devotion—money, fame, ideology: We worship the false gods of consumption.
