far-left
Extreme progressive ideology
Far-left describes political positions at the extreme end of the left-wing spectrum, typically advocating radical economic redistribution, abolition of capitalism, or revolutionary social transformation.
The term encompasses communists, anarchists, and other anti-capitalist movements.
Critics use it to characterize views they consider dangerously radical: The candidate dismissed her opponent's policies as far-left.
Like its counterpart far-right, the label often says as much about the speaker's perspective as about what's being described.
