Antifa is a loose, decentralized movement opposing fascism and far-right ideologies, typically through direct action including protests and confrontation.
The term is a shortening of "anti-fascist." Participants reject formal organization: Antifa isn't a group you join—it's something you do.
Critics and supporters disagree sharply on whether its tactics are justified resistance or political violence.
The word gained prominence in American political discourse after 2016.
