leftism
Progressive political ideology
Leftism is the political orientation favoring progressive social change, economic equality, and collective welfare over traditional hierarchies and free-market capitalism.
The term covers a spectrum from moderate liberalism to socialism to revolutionary communism.
Critics use it dismissively: His leftism makes him blind to economic realities.
Adherents may embrace or avoid the label depending on context.
