fan fiction
Unauthorized character borrowing
Fan fiction is fiction written by fans of an existing work—novel, film, TV series, video game—using its characters, settings, or universe.
Writers explore scenarios the original didn't: romances between characters, alternate endings, backstories.
Fan fiction ranges from short sketches to novel-length works, shared on dedicated websites and forums.
Often shortened to fanfic or fic.
