home videos
Amateur domestic footage
Home videos are amateur recordings of everyday life—family gatherings, vacations, children's milestones—made for personal rather than commercial purposes.
The term evokes a specific era of camcorders and VHS tapes, though the practice continues with smartphones.
Home videos are often characterized by shaky footage, poor lighting, and unscripted moments: We spent the afternoon watching old home videos from the nineties.
