headcanon
Unofficial fan belief
Headcanon is a fan's personal interpretation of a fictional work that isn't explicitly stated in the original material.
It fills gaps the creator left open—a character's backstory, motivation, or relationship history: My headcanon is that they were friends before the events of the first movie.
Unlike fanfiction, headcanon stays in the mind as accepted personal truth about the story world.
