electromyography

Recording muscle signals

Electromyography is a diagnostic technique that records the electrical activity of muscles.

Abbreviated EMG.

Electrodes inserted into muscle tissue or placed on the skin detect electrical signals when muscles contract, helping diagnose nerve damage, muscular dystrophy, and other neuromuscular disorders: The electromyography revealed carpal tunnel syndrome.
