denervation
Cutting neural supply
Denervation is the loss or removal of nerve supply to a body part.
It may result from injury, disease, or deliberate surgical cutting.
Denervated tissue loses sensation and motor control; denervated muscle eventually atrophies.
The procedure is sometimes performed therapeutically to treat chronic pain or muscle spasticity.
