paresthesia
Limb falls asleep
Paresthesia is the medical term for abnormal sensations—tingling, prickling, numbness, or the feeling of pins and needles.
It typically occurs in the extremities: My foot fell asleep and now I have paresthesia in my toes.
The sensation results from pressure on nerves, poor circulation, or neurological conditions.
Also spelled paraesthesia in British English.
