mites
Microscopic eight-legged pests
Mites are tiny arachnids, most invisible to the naked eye, that live on plants, animals, and in soil.
Some are parasites: dust mites trigger allergies, and chiggers cause itchy bites.
The word also means a small amount or a small child: The poor mite was exhausted.
A widow's mite is a small but heartfelt contribution.
