mop

Janitor's wet tool

A mop is a cleaning tool with absorbent material at the end of a handle, used wet for washing floors.

To mop is to clean with one, or to wipe as if with one: She mopped her brow with a handkerchief.

A mop can also be a thick mass of untidy hair: a mop of curls.

To mop up is to finish off remaining resistance or clean up the last of something: mopping up enemy stragglers.
