disinterring

Digging up corpses

Disinterring is digging up something that was buried, especially a corpse: The court ordered disinterring the body for DNA testing.

The word extends to bringing forgotten things back to light: disinterring old grievances, disinterring documents from the archives.

The opposite of interring.
