deubiquitinase

A deubiquitinase is an enzyme that removes ubiquitin—a small regulatory protein—from other proteins.

This reverses the tagging process that marks proteins for degradation or alters their function.

Deubiquitinases help regulate protein turnover, cell signaling, and DNA repair: Mutations in deubiquitinases have been linked to various cancers.
