Studying hidden motivations
Depth psychology is a general term for psychological theories and therapies that emphasize the unconscious mind—the mental processes beneath conscious awareness.
The field includes Freudian psychoanalysis, Jungian analytical psychology, and related approaches that probe beneath surface thoughts and behaviors to uncover hidden motivations, repressed memories, and symbolic meanings.
Her therapist took a depth psychology approach, exploring childhood experiences and dream imagery.
