Psychoanalytic developmental theory
Penis envy is a psychoanalytic concept from Freud proposing that girls, upon discovering they lack a penis, develop envy and resentment toward males.
The theory has been widely criticized and largely abandoned in modern psychology.
More loosely, penis envy describes any perceived male jealousy of another man's endowment, or women's supposed desire for male privilege: His sports car is pure penis envy.
