animus

Bitter ill will

Animus is a feeling of hostility or ill will, usually sustained rather than momentary: There was real animus between the two families.

The word often implies deeper animosity than simple dislike—a grudge or grievance that persists.

In Jungian psychology, animus refers to the masculine aspect of a woman's psyche, paired with anima (the feminine aspect in men).
