decolonize
End imperial control
Decolonize means to free from colonial status—when a territory gains independence from an occupying power: Algeria decolonized from France in 1962.
More recently, the word has extended to removing colonial influences from institutions, curricula, or ways of thinking: efforts to decolonize the museum's collection, decolonize your bookshelf.
This newer sense is sometimes criticized as overreach.
