memorialization

Creating lasting tributes

Memorialization is the act of creating something to preserve memory—a monument, ceremony, plaque, or other tribute honoring a person, event, or group.

The word often appears in discussions of how societies remember tragedies or historical figures: The memorialization of the victims took years to complete.

It can also refer to the process of making something official or permanent in written form.
