decolonizing
Dismantling colonial structures
Decolonizing is the process of undoing colonial influence—politically, culturally, or intellectually.
A colony decolonizes when it gains independence from imperial rule.
More recently, the term describes efforts to remove colonial perspectives from institutions: decolonizing the curriculum, decolonizing the museum.
This newer sense focuses on centering indigenous or non-Western knowledge and dismantling assumptions inherited from colonial power structures.
